Welcome!

POPULATION AND COMMUNITY ECOLOGY IN AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS
Welcome! I am an assistant Professor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in the Department of Biological Sciences. My research primarily on focuses on population dynamics, community ecology and species interactions, with most projects focused in aquatic ecosystems.

Feel free to email me (thander [at] siue.edu) with questions about working in my lab as an undergraduate or MS student, research projects or for reprints.

Lab News (infrequently updated...)

February: Audiomoths are deployed to track calling phenology of frogs on the SIUE campus.
January: Simon and Kasey join the lab as URCA students, and Lacie, Trevor and Tori begin working as techs on pond zooplankton dynamics
2021
December: Jessica and Tom completed Year 11 of sampling for mole salamanders at LBL. Kyle also completed his ENSC capstone project on predator cues influencing foraging by mosquitofish.
October: Cattle tank experiment testing how ringed and marbled salamanders are affected by hydroperiod duration is underway!
August: Mariah and Jessica joined the lab as MS students!
April: Angel, Zach, Ethan, and Christian all did a great job presenting their senior capstone projects!
March: Undergraduate projects are underway, including tests of how mosquitofish interact with native aquatic taxa and how rearing temperature influences hatching size in frogs and salamanders. Plus, sampling of ponds on the SIUE campus has begun!
February: Tom gave online seminars for the Living Earth Collaborative/Wash U (archived version is here) and Missouri S&T Biology Department.

January: Several new faces started in the lab! Welcome to Angel, Tori, Kyle, Zach, Ethan and Christian, who are all doing undergrad research and/or senior thesis projects in the lab. More to come on their work!
